What Is a Proximity Key?

A proximity or smart key lets you unlock doors and start your car hands-free; that is why it's also called a keyless entry remote. It relies on an encrypted signal exchange with your vehicle’s computer. If the key fails or is lost, replacement requires advanced locksmith programming.
